U is for Sunrise

Today's post is brought to you by the letter U and the category of Poetry.

I love sunrises and sunsets and I also love to re-create them with words.
The photo was one I took a few years ago.

Unbroken

Under the velvet sky
Crimson spears tag
The dying moon
Cutting and blinding

Upon blades of green
Silver tears rest
Trembling in the thermals
They await their fate

Ursa Minor slips from the sky
Sliding down and away
Sleep little bear
Tomorrow is another night

Ultimatums are set
And the midnight creatures
Fade into the shadows
Resting yet again

Ubiquitous he rises
King once again
Firing the night
Into the day

  1. Beautiful! I never got tired of seeing the sunsets down by the ocean where we used to live. I haven't seen the sunsets here yet that are note worthy, but people say they are here so I'll just have to keep waiting.

    1. I have never seen another sunrise quite like that one. I was in a harvested wheat field goose hunting when I took this picture.

  2. Hi Jeff- I was just popping in from the A-Z list but I'm a sucker for original poetry and sunrises, so now I'm a follower. :) Nice to meet you.

  3. This is a glorious poem and picture. Really nice, detailed poem, Jeff. I like your attention to every word and the idea that ultimatums are set. Great U. Great you. =)

  4. I always loved watching sunrises and sunsets at sea. Beautiful.
Nowadays? Another sunrise means another day above ground. Yippee.

  7. Hello there.
What a lovely photo! I love sunsets and sunrises too. I got the best of both a few years ago visiting my parents in the Caribbean. When the sun was setting over the ocean, it looked so close I felt I could reach out and touch it. Wish I'd have taken a picture! Thanks for sharing.

  8. King is a great word to describe the sun. I like the tears...I've seen them. :-)
