B if for 3rd Time's a Charm

 Dear Reader,

I must confess.  This challenge does not have a theme.  While it may seem like it at times (most times) I assure you I have not singled out any parameters on which to engage you with.

In fact, I am actually behind schedule.  As a matter of fact, I just signed up this morning.  April 3rd.
How's that for procrastination?

So while many of you are already finished writing and pre-posting your challenges and off reading and adventuring through the other 1982 blogs out there I am playing a bit of catch-up.  No worries, I kind of like it this way.

Anyways, the point of confessing to a non-themed challenge is that you will see a lot of one topic on here but I still have other things to write about as well that wouldn't fit into a single-themed project.

Have I told you the story of how much I wanted to have children?

It began quite some time ago.  I got married back in 2002.  For the first (and only) time.  It seems like yesterday and so long ago at the same time.  14 years is really not that long but anyways, my wife stopped taking any form of birth control about 3 months before we were married. 3 years later in 2005 she got pregnant.  3 long years we waited.  It wasn't meant to be and we lost him.

She got pregnant again, 4 years after that in 2009.  Again it wasn't meant to be and we lost her.

She got pregnant again I don't exactly recall the year anymore.  Sometimes it gets blurry through the tears but alas this one was also not meant to be.

So we sorta threw in the towel.  How much heartache can two people go through before they give up?

We looked into adoption and it just wasn't right for us at the time.  So we patched up our broken hearts and kept on with life.

Until that one day.  Out of the blue, she told me.  Total shock!  So many things running through our heads.  After all these years?  At 41 and 42 years old?  My 2 step children at 19 and 22, both in college?  Will this one make it?  What the???????????????

Once the shock wore off we started planning.  I just knew this one was going to stick around.  We made it past the critical stages of previous losses around 20 weeks and so far so good.  We are both really excited (especially me) to have this new...

Our baby at 8 weeks old.

Our baby at 21 weeks 3 days

  1. What gut wrenching story with a wonderful ending!! And thanks for joining A to Z!! It wouldn't have been the same without you!!

  2. You stopped stressing and worrying and trying - and it happened.
Just a couple more weeks, dad.

  3. You gotta know I'm sporting an ear to ear grin for you. Great B post - Baby had to be the topic, for sure.
Like Dani, and Alex, I'm adding myself to the cheering section - rooting for all three of you.

I can hardly wait for the unravelling of the alphabet as I'm sensing a theme…. all things little, snuggly, cute and adorable… the joy of your life is coming our way! I hope!

  4. Well I already knew how happy you were to be having Corabella, but I had no idea the heartbreak you'd suffered to get there. We're all cheering you on as you near the finish line. This is a win you've most certainly earned.

  5. Kids are great. They provide so much joy to our lives and let us know that there is a real purpose to this whole thing. Plus, they can change our diapers when all we can eventually eat are soft foods.
Be advised. You get a mention in tomorrow's post as my inspiration. It's a chicken thing.

  6. I am just so happy for you and your wife!! I can't wait until you announce the news that Corabella has been born! Age really isn't going to be that big of a difference; my sister was 40 and her husband 39 when they had their second child years back. I think with age comes maturity and wisdom; you've done a lot in your lives so if that takes a back seat to raising your little one, I think it will be more of a content feeling, you know what I mean?

  7. Congrats. That's great.

And as for a theme, I don't have one either. And I've only written up through H as of today. (But I only write my posts a week in advance, anyway, so this is normal for me.)
