Today's post is brought to you by the Letter E and the category of Photos.

What would you do without Electricity?

Could you make it through everyday life?

Think about it for a while.

Simple electrons and protons attracting and repulsing each other dictate how we live.  Our slavery to the big “E” has made us weak and vulnerable.  I am no different.

When we build our cabin in the woods it will not be connected to the giant coal-burning power plant.
It will be tucked deep in the woods and it will subsist off what nature gives us.

What would it be like to live off the grid?

Could you do it?

Would you do it?

Solar power and a bank of batteries to store saved energy.

Wood burning stove for cooking and heat.

  1. Nope, I don't think I could live off the grid in my present circumstances. I do depend on the internet for work; not sure how I could accomplish that. I do admire those that do manage to live off the grid.

  2. I've lived off the grid - it's amazing. Now, that said, as I've grown older I'm a little harder pressed to part with that thermostat and my microwave… hahaha

However, that cabin looks mighty appealing. I wish you success in making that dream come true.

    Great E post…

  3. All the best in your dream. It's quite an ambitious thing to accomplish.

  5. I can do it in small doses, and we usually do for at least a weekend every summer when we head up north camping in Superior National Forest or the Boundary Waters. But I'll be honest, I'm not sure I could do it for an extensive length of time. My husband, however, thinks it's a great idea and watches way too many survival and "Alaskan wilderness" type shows.

  6. If everyone suddenly had no electricity we would be screwed money wise because a lot of our money we only ever see as digits on a computer screen/bank statement.

When I was at university I lived for a day without electricity - it kept shorting out so while we waited for someone to fix it I went to the shop and came back with a torch, battery operated lights and tins of food I could heat up on the gas hob.

Thankfully someone appeared to fix it just as it was getting dark. Although the guy did seem pretty surprised that a female art history student had worked out that the reason the electricity kept shorting was because water was dripping out of the boiler in to the plug socket

  7. I have actually spent a lot of time without electricity... And during summer... It's a pain but I guess if I have enough books I can survive
